Summary
To catch an assassin, use an assassin…
Girton Club-foot has no family, a crippled leg, and is apprenticed to the best assassin in the land. He’s learning the art of taking lives, but his latest mission tasks him with a far more difficult challenge: to save a life.
Someone is trying to kill the heir to the throne, and it is up to Girton to uncover the traitor and prevent the prince’s murder.
In a kingdom on the brink of civil war and a castle thick with lies, Girton finds friends he never expected, responsibilities he never wanted, and a conspiracy that could destroy an entire kingdom.
My Thoughts
Girton and his master are caught sneaking into a castle. The queen blackmails them into finding the assassin after her son, the prince. Girton though, has a club foot. He’s still a great assassin but he can’t exactly defend himself when others think he’s an easy target.
Girton is a young boy, who has never done anything an average child would have done. He doesn’t know about crushes, love, or just childhood playing. This gets in the way a little with what he is charged to do, which is to protect the prince. Girton also has a clubbed foot leads the others, to underestimate him. But he also has to play the part so he doesn’t do much to disillusion them from their belief.
I enjoyed that the main character has a disability. He’s a young child, with a club foot. But he’s also an assassin. I couldn’t tell you right now a book I’ve read any other time in my life where there was a character with a disability. Granted when I was younger I wasn’t paying attention to if the characters had any kind of disability I just cared that it was a good story. This is another good story, and another series I intend to read. (My series list is getting a bit out of control with the series I want to start yet, and those I already started and want to finish.)
With the ending being what it was, I am looking forward to seeing what other adventures are in store for this child assassin.
