2024 was not great for my reading. I couldn’t really stay invested in many of the books I picked up to read, and kept switching books before I finished. This did not lend to enjoying my time reading, and ultimately my reading suffered. Despite 2025 being a WTF year (a year which starts Wednesday, Thursday, Friday), I am hoping my reading mood in 2025 will be better and I will be able to enjoy reading.
Read 30,000 pages
I am trying to change up the usual goal of reading a specific number of books. Most of my unread books are several hundred pages. So rather than trying to read say, 52 books, averaging 1 book a week, I am going to aim for pages. This will also help, as I own a few omnibus books, with 3 books in one, such as Mistborn Era 2 all in one book. Not really having tracked pages read in a year before, certainly not with any accuracy, I have no idea if this is obtainable or not. I arrived at the number by multiplying 600 by 50, assuming 600 pages a book and 50 books in the year.
Review all books read
I try to review most of the books I read, if not on YouTube or here on the blog, then on sites like StroryGraph, or the various bookseller sites. This year I would like to make this 100% of the books I read are reviewed somewhere. Reviews are one way potential readers make their choice of reading – how many TBR games or Readathons use a prompt to read your highest or lowest rated book from your TBR? I would like to help authors, assuming I enjoyed their books, and share thoughts of the stories they tell or how well non-fiction information is presented.
Read 25% of Books Gifted
Last year I had a goal to read all my unread books which were gifted to me. I failed at this goal. And this year I have only added more books to that list, and more than a few are quite long. So, trying to make this goal more reachable, I am aiming for 25%. If I manage to hit this maybe half-way through the year, I will double it. Right now, I feel the 25% is reachable, but also iffy since I will of course also be wanting to read books I’ve purchased, or finish series where I was gifted the first book and get totally hooked but don’t yet have the next books.
Finish 5 series
There are many series I have started, and there are many more I would like to try. I start series, but then don’t seem to finish them despite being interested in the series. I feel like I don’t want to binge series like I used to, as the books just blur together, and when later discussing the books and series with friends, I can’t remember what was in which book, especially those series longer than 3 books. I need to focus on finishing or DNFing series because I’ve started so many, and read the books so long ago, if I really want to finish the series, I likely need to start the series over because I’ve forgotten most everything.
