A library apprentice, a sorcerer prince, and an unbreakable magic bond…

The Solaris Empire is one conquest away from uniting the continent, and the rare elemental magic sleeping in seventeen-year-old library apprentice Vhalla Yarl could shift the tides of war.

Vhalla has always been taught to fear the Tower of Sorcerers, a mysterious magic society, and has been happy in her quiet world of books. But after she unknowingly saves the life of one of the most powerful sorcerers of them all—the Crown Prince Aldrik—she finds herself enticed into his world. Now she must decide her future: Embrace her sorcery and leave the life she’s known, or eradicate her magic and remain as she’s always been. And with powerful forces lurking in the shadows, Vhalla’s indecision could cost her more than she ever imagined.

I will admit I was a bit worried when I chose this book for my Book Junkie Trials TBR, but this book too that uncertainty and crushed it. It was a great first book for a month long readathon.

I absolutely loved this story. I was carried away, and am very much looking to pick up the next book of the series hopefully in the next few months. This story absolutely sucked me in from the get go. I was charmed by the characters and the world they lived in.

Vhalla is an apprentice in the library, but has developed a bit of magic. One night she is called for an emergency research quest. She doesn’t know which prince has been poisoned, but makes an assumption and goes all out to save the life of the prince. On the pages of notes sent to the others trying to save his life and neutralize the poison, she has unknowingly left little bits of magic.

Prince Aldrik, who had been poisoned, uses the magic once he is well to track her down. She is invited to the tower of sorcery but can’t bear the idea of being taken in and trained. Those with magic are feared, and are in a sense thought to be disgusting. Even the boy she is friends with, and has let known his intentions to her, is looking into what happens if she were to essentially have her abilities taken from her.

However, Vhalla is a wind walker. Which is hard to believe since one hasn’t been seen in 143 years. So the prince does what he can to convince her to keep her magic and train. While doing this, a romance sort of seems to blossom between the two of them. They don’t really understand the feelings they have for each other, but there is definitely something there.

When the town is attacked all things go to heck. I don’t want to say more on this because of spoilers, and I fear even being careful I may give something away. So we will leave it as things get dicey, and the futures of both the prince and Vhalla are changed.

I can’t wait to see what happens next with these characters, so I’m really hoping to grab book two soon.
