Leigh Bardugo knows how to end a trilogy. The things Alina learns about The Darkling, herself, and Mal during this last book are surprising to say the least.

At the end of Siege and Storm Alina and The Darkling fought. If Alina survived, we can assume The Darkling has survived the battle as well. Alina takes some time to recover, but it’s not all her fault with how long it takes. They have taken refuge underground, and she’s not allowed to the surface to absorb some of the direct sunlight.

Alina and Mal get some help and do search for the firebird, but the search is long and are caught in a few battles barely escaping. When they do find the firebird, they realize something in their research is true. Something they didn’t want to be true. Then they have to face this truth at the hardest time.

The story speaks for itself. This was a great book, and was sorry when it was over. I enjoyed the ending of this trilogy, and will try to read more of Leigh Bardugo soon.
